Millions being exposed to effort on social media, thousands more on streets of Washington state

SEATTLE – A groundbreaking new effort to fight socialism and highlight the power of the free market is gaining traction in Washington state and around the country. Washington Policy Center (WPC) – one of the nation’s leading state-based, independent research organizations – is the group behind the effort.

The “Free Markets Destroy” campaign focuses on the power of the marketplace to destroy society’s worst problems and continually improve our lives. More than two million social media accounts have been exposed to the campaign since it launched just a short time ago, and nearly half a million have watched or been engaged with Free Markets Destroy videos on social media outlets including Facebook and Instagram. Further, hundreds of thousands of people have seen Free Markets Destroy billboards in Seattle, Spokane and Tacoma over the past three weeks.

The campaign has gained national attention, with endorsements from former ABC News’ “20/20” host John Stossel and former Florida Governor and presidential candidate Jeb Bush.

“We are thrilled that young Americans are expressing an interest in this message,” explained Chris Cargill, the director of WPC’s Free Markets Destroy campaign. “We know that Millennials and Gen Z’s want to move fast, want change and want to tear down what isn’t working, and the market is the mechanism that can accomplish that the best.”

WPC has teamed up with the creative studio Emergent Order in Austin for the unique marketing effort. It launched this month with the potential to reach millions of Washingtonians, specifically the youngest generations.

A 2019 Gallup poll showed that the majority of Americans as a whole do not believe in Socialism, however over the past few years young adults’ overall impression of capitalism and free markets has steadily declined.

The Free Markets Destroy campaign is initially focusing on five key areas; Free Markets Destroy climate change, high rents, boredom, hunger and disease.
