For nearly three decades, Washington Policy Center has recognized free markets as the ultimate engine of opportunity. They empower individuals—not institutions—to innovate, grow and build better lives. Rooted in voluntary exchange, competition and personal liberty, free markets allow ideas to flourish, hard work to be rewarded, and communities to thrive. The state of Washington itself stands as a testament to what happens when freedom and enterprise come together: from our pioneering agricultural roots to our world-renowned technology and aerospace industries, free markets have shaped the vibrant economy and culture we enjoy and benefit from today.
But this foundation of prosperity is not guaranteed. Increasingly, government regulation, heavy taxation and centralized decision-making fueled by a partisan agenda are stifling the very freedoms that made Washington’s success possible. Entrepreneurs and small businesses, once the backbone of our neighborhoods, face overwhelming red tape and burdensome taxes today while other states pile on incentives. Families are crushed under the weight of high living costs and dwindling dreams of home ownership. When government grows too large, individual liberty shrinks—and with it, our shared opportunities for progress and the quality of life that keeps our citizenry together.
If we want a Washington that remains affordable, prosperous, educated, safe and civil, we must renew our commitment to free-market principles before any more gains are lost. This means advocating for policies that reduce taxes, limit government interference and return power to individuals, families and communities. It means trusting people—not bureaucracies—to drive innovation, create jobs and educate our children.
Free markets are not just an economic system; they are a philosophy of trust in human potential. They built our state’s and nation’s glorious pasts—and if we defend and advance them with courage and clarity—they will secure our future. For Washington, now and for the generations to come, please join us as we stand for free markets. Always.
