Telemedicine is a reality for Washington state

Like many states, Washington faces a physician shortage in the coming years. (here) The rural parts of the state are the most vulnerable to the lack of timely access to providers, especially primary care.

Telemedicine can allow patients to consult with doctors via telephone or computer and receive advice without going to the physician's office. It has the potential to greatly expand patient access and choices when receiving care. Washington Policy Center's support of telemedicine was reflected as legislation this session, SB 6519, that would establish a collaborative to design a telemedicine system for the state. (here)

The bill passed with overwhelming bipartisan support. Governor Inslee recently signed the bill into law. (here) We applaud the legislature and the governor for increasing patient access to health care in Washington state.
