Eleanor Baumgartner was a Senior Advisor for Washington Policy Center in Eastern Washington. She is a former strategy consultant and journalist. She worked for global consulting firm Bain & Company in London and Boston, advising clients in diverse sectors from telecoms to diamonds. Eleanor later changed careers to journalism, working as a staff reporter and science correspondent for UK national newspaper The Mail on Sunday, and as a freelance journalist in Afghanistan. From 2008 to 2009 she was an embedded counternarcotics advisor on contract to the US State Department in southern Afghanistan.

She has a degree in natural sciences from St John’s College, University of Cambridge. Eleanor previously competed in ultramarathons and is now happy to get out for a more sensible run, followed by coffee.
