SEATTLE—Contrary to assertions made by ‘Yes! To Affordable Groceries,’ part of the pro-Initiative 1634 campaign, Washington Policy Center (WPC) does not endorse the initiative.

WPC was first made aware of the assertions made in radio ads and robocalls on October  23rd.  On that same day WPC requested the campaign remove the ads and stop the robocalls.  WPC later received an email originating from the campaign, dated October 25th, that continued the assertion that WPC has endorsed the initiative.

“Privately, we asked for this to stop,” said Dann Mead Smith, Washington Policy Center’s president. “We were never contacted by the campaign about using our name. Now we’re making it clear publicly that our organization has not endorsed this initiative.”

WPC has published studies on some of the state’s key ballot measures including I-1634 as part of their “Citizens’ Guide” election resource series.   These guides are intended to educate citizens about the measures and help them make informed decisions based on their own priorities.  They do not include endorsements or instruct readers how to vote.
