National Medicaid Expert to Brief in Olympia Next Wednesday

As a part of the Health Care 2004: Opportunities for Reform and Innovation Conference, Washington Policy Center will host a briefing by Jim Frogue, national expert on Medicaid, in Olympia on the capitol campus.

Jim Frogue is Director of the Health and Human Services for the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) in Washington, D.C. and has some innovative ideas to reform the Medicaid system.

ALEC's ideas include moving Medicaid away from its aging structure of government-defined benefits and prices-to one in which the Medicaid patient calls the shots. Early demonstration projects using this approach have shown tremendous promise.

"Medicaid must leave behind its aging structure that is biased toward reactive, acute care and move toward a 21st century model of pro-active, preventive care that simultaneously improves patient outcomes while bringing down overall cost," said Mr. Frogue.
