People exempted from WA Cares for having private LTCI need to keep it, ESD says

A WA Cares webinar Wednesday went over the long-term-care program the state is still putting its finishing touches on. What still needs deciding? What kind of training family caregivers will need to have in order to be paid with WA Cares dollars and if it will cost them is one of the details still in process, as is exactly which services qualify for payments from the state. Rulemaking is happening now.

State employees are diligently working to answer people’s questions about the controversial program when they do have answers. Hosts of a monthly webinar series allow people participating to ask questions. One of the questions Wednesday was a question I have been asked over and over the past two years: Do people who were approved for exemptions from WA Cares because they had or obtained private insurance plans for long-term care in 2021 need to keep their coverage?

Is it facts or is it activism?

As the agricultural community dwindles, words like farming, ranching, livestock, and pesticides, have become dirty words to some. They have become words almost synonymous with environmental degradation, pollution, and emissions. 

If you ask most people involved in agriculture, they’ll tell you preserving nature is important to their livelihoods. They might point out how soil with proper pH and plenty of microorganisms offers better crop yields. They might discuss how the presence of livestock on a previously barren landscape can rejuvenate grasslands and bring native plants and animals back after being long dormant or absent.

Promoting WA Cares is unnecessary, questionable

Persistent marketing promotes something most W2 workers in Washington state are forced to do without any prompting: participate in WA Cares. Money well spent? No. It’s been unnecessary spending, at best, for more than a year. 

Now, with Initiative 2124 asking voters if they want to make the long-term-care (LTC) program and payroll tax optional in November, promoting a program lawmakers imposed on workers is also questionable.
