Spokane – Washington Policy Center (WPC), a non-partisan public policy research organization with offices in Seattle and Olympia, has opened an office in Spokane and hired a full-time director. Chris Cargill has joined WPC’s staff as director of the office.
A life-long Eastern Washington resident, Chris grew up in Spokane and graduated from Gonzaga University. Before joining WPC, he worked in TV news for 10 years as a news producer at two Spokane television stations. He organized and produced dozens of political debates and forums, and conducted interviews with a range of politicians including former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich and presidential candidate John Kerry.
Chris will focus on outreach to citizens, media, and community organizations throughout Eastern Washington and engage them in the promotion of WPC’s policy research and recommendations. In addition, he will help WPC bring the unique policy concerns of Eastern Washington citizens and groups to the public debate on the west side.
Washington Policy Center focuses on seven core areas of public policy research: budget reform, health care, education, the environment, the small business climate, transportation, and the free public service website WashingtonVotes.org. On all of these issues WPC works with lawmakers of both parties to promote commonsense, market-based solutions. Recently WPC completed a $4.2 million capital campaign and opened seven research centers as well as a satellite office in Olympia.
“I am delighted that Washington Policy Center’s Eastern Washington office has been opened and professionally staffed,” said WPC board member and former Congressman George Nethercutt. “The Policy Center’s free-market principles will be well received throughout the Eastern part of our state.”
