Panel discussion on Charter Schools begins at 6pm, and the movie starts at 7pm.  No RSVP necessary.  Tickets are available at the box office for $10 and seating is limited, first come first serve.

Panelists:

Liv Finne, Director of WPC's Center for Education

Robin Lake, Associate Director, Center for Reinventing Public Education, University of Washington, and nationally-recognized expert on charter school legislation.

Sen.-elect Doug Ericksen, State Senator-elect from the 42nd District (Whatcom County), current 42nd District State Representative, and sponsor of the  Innovation Schools Act amendment to Governor’s "Race to the Top" bill in 2010 Legislative Session.

Scott Oki, former Senior Vice President at Microsoft, philanthropist and founder of 22 non-profits benefiting children, author of Outrageous Learning, and advocate for creation of a parents union.

Waiting for Superman examines the crisis of public education in the U.S. through the stories of five students and their families, whose only chance at a quality education depends upon winning a lottery to attend a high-performing charter school.  Brought to life by the producer of Al Gore's "Inconvenient Truth" documentary, Waiting for Superman shows educators and reformers trying to find real and lasting solutions for students within a dysfunctional system.
