Eastside Breakfast - September

This is a private, no-host monthly breakfast series and is by invitation only.  Our September event will feature an interactive presentation and provide an opportunity for you to interact with WPC board and staff members, as well as other Eastside business and political leaders.  As always, we encourage you to bring a guest that is interested in learning more about WPC.

In 2019 we will have a new concept for our breakfast series. We will be holding one every month (with the exception of July, August, December) and this year we will be switching off between Bellevue and Seattle, with Seattle being held at 13 Coins and Bellevue still being at the Bellevue Grille. All of these will be held from 7:30-8:30am. The schedule is below:

  • September 26 - Bellevue
  • November 21 - Bellevue

Featured Speakers:

Leo Novsky, Executive Director, Defy Ventures Washington

Leo Novsky is the Executive Director for Defy Ventures in Washington state. Defy Ventures transforms the lives of business leaders and people with criminal histories by harnessing the natural talents of currently and formerly incarcerated men, women, and youth and redirect them toward the creation of legal business ventures and careers.

Leo’s passion for underdogs stems from his experience immigrating to the United States from the Soviet Union at the age of 12. A serial entrepreneur, Leo has volunteered in prison since 2013. In 2017, he started an entrepreneurship training program at Monroe and soon after learned about Defy Ventures. After a transformational experience at a Defy Business Pitch Competition in Southern California, Leo has been working tirelessly to bring Defy to Washington State. Leo has over 15 years of experience in communications, training, marketing, and business development. His educational background includes a BA in English Literature from the University of Chicago and an MBA from the University of Dallas.

Dr. Donald Devine, The Fund for American Studies

Donald Devine is senior scholar at The Fund for American Studies. Devine served as President Ronald Reagan’s civil service director during the president's first term in office. During that time, the Washington Post labeled him “Reagan’s Terrible Swift Sword of the Civil Service” for cutting bureaucrats and reducing billions in spending. Today, Devine travels the country teaching Constitutional Leadership Seminars to young people and speaking to groups about reviving the Constitution and saving the marriage between libertarianism and traditionalism.

Before and after his government service, Devine was an academic, teaching 14 years as associate professor of government and politics at the University of Maryland and for a decade as a professor of Western civilization at Bellevue University. He is a columnist and author of eight books, including his most recent America’s Way Back: Reclaiming Freedom, Tradition and Constitution. Devine served as an advisor to Reagan from 1976 to 1985, to Sen. Bob Dole from 1988-1996 and to Steve Forbes between 1998-2000.
