In referencing the Occupy Wall Street movement over the weekend, a local blogger proudly recognized protesters for allowing public transit buses to pass through their protest lines. The blogger goes on to conclude "because the 1% don't take the bus."
His generalized claim that wealthy people don't take the bus is hilarious because actually, neither do 96% of the rest of us. The Puget Sound Regional Council estimates that only about 4% of all passenger trips in the greater Seattle area are on public transit. In fact, most research shows that mode share for transit use is lower today than it was in 1960.
Public transit is the most inefficient and unsustainable mode of transportation that exists today.
