Spokane – Washington Policy Center, a non-profit, non-partisan research organization with offices in Spokane and the Tri-Cities, announced plans today to again host Wake-Up Call Legislative Forums around Eastern Washington during the 2012 Legislative Session.
The free breakfast events will give citizens an opportunity to get an update on what’s happening in Olympia and be connected live to lawmakers at the Capitol to offer feedback.
“In 2011, these events were very successful in connecting Eastern Washingtonians to Olympia. We’re glad to be able to offer this public service again,” explained Washington Policy Center Eastern Washington director Chris Cargill.
The events will begin at 7:00am and feature a presentation from WPC and a question-and-answer session with lawmakers in Olympia. Special guests will include Sen. Jim Honeyford, Sen. Curtis King, Rep. Matt Shea, Rep. Kevin Parker, Sen. Linda Evans Parlette, Sen. Janéa Holmquist Newbry, Rep. Larry Haler and many others. Even Western Washington legislators will join their Eastern Washington counterparts to hear local concerns.
“[These] forums give Eastern Washington legislators like me a great opportunity to hear from their constituents during the session,” explained State Sen. Michael Baumgartner (Spokane), who kicked off the Wake-Up Call Forums in 2011.
The events will again rotate around Eastern Washington through the legislative session and begin weekly at 7:00am:
- Spokane January 18, February 15 – Spokane Valley Hospital Education Center
- Tri-Cities: January 25, February 22 – Tri-City Regional Chamber of Commerce
- Yakima: February 1, March 7 – Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce
- Moses Lake: February 8 – Moses Lake Chamber of Commerce
- Wenatchee: February 29 – Banner Bank (501 N. Mission)
While the events are free and open to the public, attendees are asked to RSVP by calling 509-570-2384 or emailing wakeupcall@washingtonpolicy.org. More information is also available at www.washingtonpolicy.org/wakeupcallforums.
