The Seattle Times recently published another edition of the Traffic Lab series, in which they outlined the tremendous cost of traffic congestion to the public in both time and money. WPC was proud to be featured in the section titled, "Ask an expert."

For years, elected officials have avoided responsibility for our region’s crippling traffic congestion. We should hold them to a higher standard. Fixing our public roads and adding lane-miles would improve traffic flow and safety for drivers, as well as buses, emergency vehicles, vanpools and freight.

In addition to expanding road capacity, we can also maximize capacity through autonomous technology and Intelligent Transportation Systems. This technology is being developed now, and is critical to public dialogue on how we can safely and efficiently move the most people for the least amount of money in our growing region.

Simply put, expanding road capacity, meeting vanpool demand and embracing technology works, no matter how much public officials want to spend scarce dollars on other things.
