It is no secret that there is a divide between urban and rural America. The Washington Policy Center says that news stories told in big cities are mostly to blame, but so are policymakers.
“What we’re seeing with these pieces of legislation is you have people who live in these incredibly urban environments and they are sort of lecturing from their place where there is hardly a hint of the natural environment that they are purporting to want to defend and preserve,” according to Pam Lewison.
The policy center says that journalists should approach stories from a position of teaching, rather than partisanship. Also, they often choose what is or is not a factual social media post, rather than ask questions that foster curiosity.
