Things to do on your commute: environmental edition
While you are traveling around our state, here are two great podcasts I recorded addressing the challenges of environmental policy and the opportunity for market-based innovation to solve our toughest environmental problems.
By the time you get home, you will understand the dangers of relying too much on wind power and how individuals, empowered with personal technology, can reduce our environmental impact. What could be better?
First, here is my interview with the CATO Daily Podcast, highlighting the ways that private innovation is doing more for the environment than politicians, from energy efficiency, to transportation, and water pollution.
Second, David Boze and I talked about the 10 days the Northwest had almost no wind power, leaving hydro to make up all the difference. It highlights the need for energy generation that can be turned on and off immediately to make up for intermittent sources like wind. Without adequate hydro, Washington would probably have faced brownouts or very high prices.
