Governor Touts CO2 Leadership As New Report Shows Washington Lags Far Behind in Results

Today in Germany, Governor Inslee crashed a Trump Administration panel discussing the role of nuclear and fossil fuels in reducing carbon emissions. The Governor attacked the panel, calling it “a sideshow,” saying he and Governor Brown of Oregon are “moving forward to a clean energy economy.”

How is Governor Inslee doing at meeting his promises to cut CO2 emissions?

Last month, the Energy Information Administration released the latest report on state CO2 emissions and, despite the rhetoric, Washington’s record is poor.

The United States, as a whole, reduced CO2 emissions by nearly 12 percent between 2005-15. Washington state, on the other hand, reduced emissions by only 3.6 percent. Additionally, Washington’s emissions increased from 2014 to 2015 by more than three percent. Rather than going down, emissions are increasing.

Between 2005-2015, Washington state ranks 40th in CO2 reduction percentage.

Because they oppose the Trump Administration, many greens will praise Governor Inslee for his rhetoric about the administration’s energy policies. Those same greens, however, say nothing about Washington’s failure to actually produce real reductions in CO2 emissions. Public posturing that reaffirms the messages of the environmental left is more important than actual environmental benefit.
