Bellevue School District violates worker rights
The Bellevue School District is violating the rights of its workers. This job posting says this:
“Custodian Newport HS 2019-20….CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
“….This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement...”
This notice is deceptive. Workers cannot be forced to join a union. Workers cannot be compelled to pay union dues as a condition of employment.
The Bellevue School District is not telling job applicants of these rights.
A proper statement would say this:
“Custodian Newport HS 2019-20….CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
“…This position does not require an employee to pay a membership or union representation fee as a condition of employment…”
The Bellevue School District has the duty to tell the truth in these job listings. Describing a position as being covered by a collective bargaining agreement implies employees have to pay dues to a union.
This is the second time the Bellevue school district has tried to advertise for this position, and to notify workers of their rights. Both times the district has failed.
Administrators at the Bellevue School District appear to be trying to appease the union. It is obvious administrators are using these job listings to apply pressure on employees to pay $100 dollars a month to the union. Even custodians are being strong-armed into handing over a portion of their hard-earned paychecks to a wealthy union.
In our free society, every worker has the right to associate with any person or groups of persons he chooses. No worker can be compelled to join a union he doesn’t wish to join. Administrators of the Bellevue School District appear too weak to inform their workers of these well-known rights.
