‘Solutions Summit’ at Hyatt Regency Bellevue

SEATTLE — More than a dozen public policy experts – including the former Governor of Louisiana and Wall Street Journal's Kimberley Strassel – will speak Thursday at Washington Policy Center’s 2016 Solutions Summit policy conference at the Hyatt Regency in Bellevue.

The statewide, two-day conference routinely attracts some of the nation’s top political and public policy thinkers. The event kicks off Wednesday in Tri-Cities.

Media attendance is complimentary and members of the media should contact Lisa Shin at (206) 937-9691 or lshin@washingtonpolicy.org.

Former Presidential Candidate and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal will keynote lunch on Thursday’s half-day policy conference, which begins at 7:30am. The two-term Governor of Louisiana rebuilt and diversified the state’s economy and financial footing in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. He also implemented statewide school choice programs and improved the quality of education for the schoolchildren in his state.

The conference will begin with a keynote breakfast featuring Kimberley Strassel, editorial board member of The Wall Street Journal and author of the weekly "Potomac Watch" column. Attendees will hear from experts in six breakout sessions focused on:

  • How Education Savings Accounts can improve schools
  • Should the state tax per-mile driving?
  • Meaningful health care reform
  • The Rebecca Friedrichs Story: How one teacher became a leader to end forced unionism
  • How a state capital gains income tax would impact business & workers
  • Energy & water: Current problems & future solutions

Speakers at the panel discussions include California teacher Rebecca Friedrichs, the plaintiff in Friedrichs vs. California Teachers Association, the forced unionization case recently argued before the U.S. Supreme Court.  Chair of the Senate Ways & Means Committee Sen. Andy Hill, Madrona Venture Group’s Matt McIlwain are among the over-20 experts that will be featured in the breakout sessions.

Registration options for the general public are available online here or by calling (206) 937-9691.
