2006 Fall Small Business Issue Forums Kick Off Thursday in Wenatchee Featuring Release of New Policy Guide

Seattle - Washington Policy Center, the state's premier state-based research and education organization, along with its research center, the Center for Small Business and Entrepreneurship will kick off its Fall Small Business Issue Forums on Thursday morning, September 21st in Wenatchee in cooperation with the Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The Small Business Issue Forums follow up the two Statewide Small Business Conferences held last year in Seattle and Tri-Cities. Attendees will hear from experts on small business access to health care, tax policy affecting small businesses, an overview of the statewide ballot initiatives and a preview of the 2007 Legislative Session.

"Small business owners don't often have the time and resources to keep up with the latest policy innovations and proposals that affect their business," said Small Business Center director Carl Gipson. "These Forums provide a way to get caught up on the important issues of the day."

The forum will also feature the Eastern Washington release of Washington Policy Center's new "Policy Guide for Washington State," a book-length publication that will serve as an important and easy to use resource for policymakers and candidates and citizens on our state's top public policy issues. It contains the latest and most comprehensive, independent research and analysis on issues our state is facing and will face over the next few years. It features 11 chapters on improving the business climate, balancing the budget, reducing and simplifying taxes, reducing costs and improving access to heath care, protecting the environment, and education reform, including over 150 policy recommendations. This book is the second edition of our well received "Agenda 2005." Over 45 ideas from "Agenda 2005" were introduced as bills during the 2005 and 2006 Legislative Sessions with 10 being signed into law.
