Cascade Land Conservancy Receives Annual Environmental Innovator Award at Luncheon Today

Seattle - The Center for Environmental Policy at Washington Policy Center (WPC) held their 5th Annual Environmental Luncheon today at the Seattle Red Lion welcoming over 130 people. The lunch featured the presentation of WPC's Annual Environmental Innovator award, given to individuals or organizations who demonstrate a commitment to environmental sustainability using collaborative, market-oriented approaches.

The 2007 Award was presented to the Cascade Land Conservancy (CLC) and its President Gene Duvernoy today by Center for Environment Director Todd Myers at the luncheon today. Perhaps no other organization in Washington can boast a more diverse base of support, from environmental activists to family foresters. The Cascade Land Conservancy is a regional leader in developing approaches to the challenges of growth that preserve forests and open space, while respecting property rights and making use of market incentives. CLC has pioneered a number of approaches that raise fund to purchase development rights at market rates, earning the funding through responsible development and timber harvesting.

"We're happy to honor the Cascade Land Conservancy with the 2007 Environmental Innovator Award. The CLC is a leader in finding ways to use market forces to encourage environmental preservation. From using sustainable forestry to keep forestlands intact, to creating rural villages that consolidate development and forest habitat, the Cascade Land Conservancy is a role model for any group looking to bring people together to find long-term environmental solutions. - Todd Myers, Center for Environmental Policy

"Thank you very much for this award. This really means a lot to the Cascade Land Conservancy. It means we are starting to get it right." - Gene Duvernoy
