Seattle - The Center for Environmental Policy, a research center of Washington Policy Center, will hold its 4th Annual CEP Luncheon on Tuesday, July 25th featuring Dr. Patrick Moore as the featured speaker.
Dr. Patrick Moore has been a leader in the international environmental field for over 30 years and is a founding member of Greenpeace. Today, Dr. Moore is a leading critic of that movement, noting that "The once politically centrist, science-based vision of environmentalism has been largely replaced with extremist rhetoric. Science and logic have been abandoned and the movement is often used to promote other causes such as class struggle and anti-corporatism."
"We are excited to welcome a leader in the environmental community who recognizes the importance of prosperity and environmental protection," said CEP Director Todd Myers. "Dr. Moore is truly a leader of a growing trend in the thinking about environmental protection."
The Center for Environmental Policy will also present the 2006 Environmental Innovator Award. This year the award will be shared by the State Board of Natural Resources, the American Forest Resource Council and Washington environmental groups, including Audubon Society and Washington Environmental Council, who were part of the recent agreement to promote sustainable forestry on state lands. The award recognizes their long-term commitment to cooperation and science-based policy in the stewardship of state forests.
The Center for Environmental Policy works with legislators, the media and the public to offer market friendly solutions to the environmental challenges we face in Washington.
Media are encouraged to attend free of charge. Mr. Moore will be available for media interviews before and after the lunch. To schedule an interview with Mr. Moore, contact Lyndsey Hartje at 206-937-9691 or lhartje@washingtonpolicy.org.
