Roger Stark Joins Washington Policy Center as Health Care Policy Analyst
Dr. Stark brings broad experience in health care to the organization
Seattle – Washington Policy Center (WPC) has hired Roger Stark, MD, as Health Care Policy Analyst for the new Center for Health Care.
Dr. Stark currently serves on the board of Overlake Hospital. Former Board Chair and Executive Director of the Overlake Hospital Foundation and a retired cardiovascular/thoracic surgeon, he is the author of the recent book Health Care in the U.S. Today: Problems and Solutions. He brings more than 35 years experience in health care and public policy to WPC. Prior to joining the staff, Dr. Stark was a member of WPC’s research and health care advisory boards.
“I’m thrilled to be part of WPC’s research team,” remarked Dr. Stark. “My experience as a surgeon taught me that people need access to a vibrant health care market. I’m looking forward to working towards this goal with Washington Policy Center.”
In addition to preparing for WPC’s 6th Annual Health Care Conference on May 13th, Dr. Stark’s and the Center for Health Care’s current projects include Medicaid reform, tracking the growth of consumer-driven health care, and analyzing the effect of government regulations on the cost of health insurance.
Launched in 2006 as part of WPC’s Free Markets for Washington capital campaign, the Center for Health Care focuses on innovative market-based solutions to improve access and reduce the cost of health care in Washington state.
“We are honored to have someone with Dr. Stark’s background and expertise on our staff,” said WPC President Dann Mead Smith. “He is a great addition to our team and will be a tremendous resource to policymakers and those working to reform health care in our state.”
