Free Markets for Washington Research Centers Campaign Now at $3.8 Million
Major contributions bring campaign closer to $4.2 million goal
Seattle - Four recent significant contributions have brought Washington Policy Center's "Free Markets for Washington" research centers campaign to $3.8 million.
* $180,000 from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust in Vancouver for WPC’s Center for Education
* $160,000 from the Apex Foundation for WPC’s Center for Education
* $150,000 from the Dabney Point Fund for general support
* $100,000 from Mr. Charles M. Pigott for general support
"I appreciate Washington Policy Center’s informed leadership and strong voice on policy issues that support and strengthen our state," remarked Craig Stewart, Apex Foundation president. "We look forward to working with WPC on finding market solutions to improve the lives of all children and families in our state."
Unlike traditional capital campaigns that raise money for buildings, Free Markets for Washington funds intellectual capital by establishing and expanding research centers dedicated to core public policy issues. WPC has dedicated research directors for Small Business, the Environment, Transportation, Government Reform, and a non-partisan legislative information website WashingtonVotes.org. Due to these recent gifts, WPC will open its Center for Education in January 2008 with a full-time director. In the coming year WPC will be adding full-time staff for Health Care as well.
"We’re deeply grateful for these four grants and the generous support we’re receiving for the campaign," said WPC president Dann Mead Smith. "This campaign will enable us to expand our efforts in offering bold, innovative policy solutions to help make Washington a better place to live, work, and raise a family."
Launched two years ago with 100% support of the organization’s board of directors, Free Markets for Washington is getting closer to its goal of $4.2 million and eight full-time research centers.
