Sound Transit should keep its promise to "roll back" taxes
Seattle - In 1996, voters approved Sound Move. At that time, Sound Transit, also known as Regional Transit Authority (RTA), made the following promise:
"Any second phase capital program which continues local taxes for financing will require voter approval within the RTA District. If voters decide not to extend the system, the RTA will roll back the tax rate to a level sufficient to pay off the outstanding bonds and operate and maintain the investments made as part of Sound Move."ť [emphasis added] Source: Sound Move - The 10-Year Regional Transit System Plan. "Two weeks ago voters rejected Sound Transit's plan to extend its system," says Michael Ennis, Director of WPC's Center for Transportation Policy. “Now it's time for Sound Transit to do what they promised voters in 1996 and roll back taxes to simply maintain its current system."ť
