Senate leaders introduce new transportation proposal in bill form

March 3, 2014

Senator Rodney Tom (D-Medina) and Senator Curtis King (R-Yakima) introduced a new transportation package last Friday. The three bills follow:

  • SB 6577 – Passage of the bill would increase the gas tax by 11.5 cents per gallon, would increase driver-related fees, and allow King County officials to impose a Motor Vehicle Excise Tax (MVET). Sixty percent of MVET revenue would go to roads, 40% to transit;
  • SB 6578 – Appropriating funds;
  • SB 6579 – Bond authorization.

In our comparison of the House and Senate proposals, we included a list of reforms Senate leaders want included in a package. That comparison was done prior to the introduction of the new proposal.
