Obamacare is Responsible for Millions Losing Their Current Health Insurance
In 2009 the President said if you like your current health insurance you would be able to keep it - period.
The Administration has known for months, years actually, that millions of Americans who owned health insurance in the individual market would lose their plans because of Obamacare. The Affordable Care Act requires every plan sold in this market to contain 10 benefit mandates, many of which people don't want or need, like maternity care, and pediatric glasses, and substance abuse treatment.
So to comply with Obamacare, people must drop their current health plans and purchase more expensive plans with all these benefit mandates. This is the fault of the law, not the insurance companies.
However, yesterday, the Medicare and Medicaid chief Marilyn Tavenner when testifying before Congress said its the not the Administration but the insurers who are responsible for the cancelling letters now reaching most of the 14 million people who have insurance in the individual market. Technically, that's true, but only because the companies are forced by the law to change the policies, not because the insurers or the customers want to change plans.
Although breathtaking, this degree of political spin and misplaced blame is becoming commonplace for this Administration.
